The highly anticipated first GSL Qualifier for the NA/EU region began with almost no surprises on Day 1. All of the top teams like Trademark, QsQ, Stay Green, compLexity Gaming and Lions eSports moved one step closer to the ticket to Bangkok, Thailand.
From the 16 hopeful teams, that started with the chance to go to Bangkok, Thailand to compete in the Garena Star League 2013 only eight teams actually made it into the second day. That illustrious list includes the current standouts like Trademark eSports, Stay Green, compLexity Gaming, QsQ, Tt eSports, Lions eSports and also One Trick Pony.
Of the top Diamond teams from the last cycle most of them didn't even got challenged on Day 1 of the competition. Trademark eSports tore apart Pikachu in under an hour, QsQ received a forfeit victory against the European team Call It Karma, Stay Green demolished QsQ 777, Lions obliterated Afraid and One Trick Pony had only little problems against Mistral Gaming.
Only Tt eSports and Pencils actually went into a third match, but in the end the American team prevailed. Special to note in that contest was that wyt`took over the drafting and captain role in absence of LeonBlack` again, while Sender stepped in as a ringer in the first match to fill in for CHEESEHELMET.
The other slightly contested match was between Dendis jungldevos and compLexity Gaming. PUDG, who returned as a team for just this event, tried to force the upset against the highly favored compLexity and got into a tight contest on the first map. Still in the end coL was able to just overpower the Norwegian squad and take the 1-0 lead. The second match then looks like a lopsided stomp by compLexity who won by 35-4 hero kills, but PUDG still managed to drag the game over the 30 minute mark with a push-oriented healer squad including Jeraziah and Soul Reaper. In the end the margin became just to big and compLexity Gaming can move into the next round.
Last on the list of the evening was the clash of We Are Spies and Absolute Legends, who delayed their match due to several real-life commitments. The match was played tonight at 5 AM CET. A lot of discussion and rumours arose around this matchup, as DirtyMobs hinted a huge roster addition in a statement. In the end it turned out to be the old Honcast caster and Trademark eSports captain Tralfamadore, who was trying out in this relatively young and new team.
In the end this addition didn't help the young and exciting team of We Are Spies, who went down to Absolute Legends in a sweep.

After the first round the competition will heat up with more top teams colliding. In the lower portion of the Bracket Stay Green and One Trick Pony will meet for the third time in just two weeks, so far splitting the series and maps. Another rematch will take place between Lions eSports and compLexity Gaming, twoo teams that square off on a regular basis in the HoN Tour Diamond competition. At first coL had a huge edge in that series, but lately Lions was able to break through and defeat compLexity three times in a row.
In the upper part of the Brackets Trademark eSports is waiting for the challenge of Absolute Legends. That matchup will also be a rematch, because those two teams squared in the second round in Cycle 5 - with Trademark eSports easily winning 2-0. Meanwhile QsQ can come of rested and prepare for Tt eSports. These teams have been on top of the scene for a long time, but lately their paths divided with an inconsistent roster on Tt eSports' side, when QsQ always stuck together through thick and thin.
