On the heels of the shattering announcement of a $60,000 USD tournament on SEA soil, S2 Games has announced their qualifier to determine the two representatives for the NA/EU region.
It is looking to be a pretty impressive tournament that Garena is hosting in the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Thailand. The prize pool is massive, the marketing is hyping it as the "Asian DreamHoN" and now S2 Games is going to send two representatives from the NA/EU region to compete with the elite from Thailand and SEA in general.
Heroes of Newerth's eSports Commissioner Sam 'Milkfat' Braithwaite announced the details of this qualification tournament on Friday night in the Honcast Podcast. The best 16 teams from the Hon Tour standings after the conclusion of the fourth cycle will get the chance to compete for a ticket to Thailand. Only two will get the coveted spot and are the representatives for an entire region at the event.
So far no one can really predict which 16 teams are going to participate in this huge qualification tournament as only Trademark eSports, Stay Green, QsQ and compLexity Gaming have a comfortable cushion in the standings. Teams like Tt eSports, Lions eSports and One Trick Pony are fairly save bets as well. Tt eSports has a 2,400 point advantage over the current spot 16, Lions eSports and One Trick Pony are seperated by close to 1,000 points.
The rest of the teams have to prove themselves in the upcoming cycles in order to make the cut for the qualifier. The current team on rank 16 - QsQ 777 - only has a 100 point gap between themselves and Pikachu, who are currently ranked 17th. The same goes for Domain of Pain who also only have a 100 point deficit to rank 16.
The next couple of weeks in HonTour will have even more excitement added to them as not only the spot for the HonTour offline finals are on the line, but also a paid trip to the Garena Star League can be reached.
The qualifier for this special event will start February, 4th - most likely covered by Honcast.
