$5,000 Heroes of Newerth tournament at DEVASTATION 2011

Heroes of Newerth will be part of DEVASTATION 2011, one of the United States' premier LAN events.

DEVASTATION 2011 will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona from October 7th to 9th. Since 2005, the gaming event has been home to a wide number of game tournaments and is known for its fighting game competitions.

DEVASTATION has just announced that their StarCraft II tournament has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with IGN Pro League 3 in Atlantic City, New Jersey on the same weekend. The have also announced that they will be adding Heroes of Newerth as a PC tournament title. While it sounds like HoN is a last-minute replacement title for SC2, the DEVASTATION team has stated otherwise.

Now, while this may seem to be a hasty replacement for StarCraft II it is, in fact, something we have been working on for the last few months dating back as far as E3. S2 Games, HoN's developer, and the team at DEVASTATION have been hard at work hammering out the logistics of including a second PC title to the event.

This is particularly exciting news for the American HoN scene and all teams involved, considering the lack of North American LAN events so far. That could soon change, however, with talk of HoN at future MLG, NASL, and IPL events.

A $5,000 total prize pool puts the HoN tournament on par with the Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Super Street Fighter IV tournaments as the largest-paying games at the event. The prize money breakdown is as follows:

- $3,000.00, 1st Place
- $1,500.00, 2nd Place
- $500.00, 3rd Place

The format will be a 5v5 double-elimination tournament, with best-of-1 matches until the final few rounds, which will be best-of-3. For more rules, as well as registration, see the DEVASTATION site at www.devastationevent.com.
