This weekend, known streamer Sebastian “Forsen” Fors took his first tournament win over Drew “TidesofTime” Biessener in the HTC Invitational. Let’s see what he and the other top performers played.
Forsen apparently doesn’t like Druid, his line-up screams that. The Swede went for a trio of aggressive midrange decks in Demonzoo, Mech Shaman and Mech Mage, aimed at delivering large amounts of pain, and quick.
There’s nothing too interesting in Forsen’s builds, his decks being fairly standard. His Mech Shaman runs a couple of [card]Fel Reaver[/card]s and finishes the curve with [card]Ragnaros the Firelord[/card], which isn’t even that unorthodox. Slightly more exciting is the double [card]Bane of Doom[/card] in his Demon Zoo. The card has been discussed before and it’s mostly seen as a one-of but Forsen’s adamant on bringing a pair.
If Forsen is a standard player, TidesofTime is anything but. The Cloud9 player is famous for deck innovations and he showed it once again in this tournament. Where most players brought Patron Warrior, he chose Dragon Control with double [card]Revenge[/card] and [card]Nefarian[/card]. Where others play Demonzoo, he plays a Murlock and crushes people with it. And even if he looks like he’s going for a standard Hybrid Hunter, he finds a place for a singleton [card]Volcanic Drake[/card], just for good measure.
Two more Americans made their way to the top four. Tides’ team-mate Cong “StrifeCro” Shu stayed true to his love of Handlock and supported it with a standard Grim Patron Warrior and a Hybrid Hunter. George “Hyped” Maganzini, on the other hand, had brought the signature [card]Blingtron 3000[/card] Mech Mage that Tempo Storm guys like so much, a standard Control Warrior (with a pinch of Dragons) and his own Handlock.
