As most of you readers here at GosuGamers know the winner of the Uzbekistani World Cyber Games was OverDrive[a2]. And just like the winner of the Italian World Cyber Games, I had a chance to sit down with OverDrive[a2] and talk about a few things.
Well I actually did not get to sit and chat with the man, but we did have an interview. I had some very complicated issues with a very useless chat machine, ICQ, so I could not contact OverDrive[a2] directly. So I took the next best choice and decided that I would try to do a nice E-Mail interview.
So I am sorry if the interview does not "flow" as well as some others would have it they were done directly with the interviewee, but this was the next best thing. So with that said and done here is the interview with OverDrive[a2].
GpaiS:
To start off, would you mind giving us your name? Also you age? And where exactly do you live in Uzbekistan? How many languages can you speak? And what is your family origin?
OverDrive[a2]:
My name is Yugay Vyacheslav, I’m 17, and I live in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I speak only 2 languages Russian and English. Everyone in my family is Korean, I think they moved here because of wars in Korea(not sure what kind of war, I'm bad at history).
Ok let’s go to the most important question, did your heart sink when you lost to ChingizKhan in the first round? Did it cross your mind you might have lost your WCG chance?
Yes, I was worried and surprised at the same time, to be honest I think I would go to the top without a single loss, it was shocking that I lost 0-2 in my best match up. But I’m also glad that people here tend to play better every year.
In 2004 you did not go to the World Cyber Game Grand Finals, Maska did. What happened that year? Was there anything you could have done to have gone to the Grand Finals that year?
Well WCG 2004 was a total disappointment for me, I lost 1 game to someone, and got nervous, made a mistake, so they gave me a tech loss. I still had a chance to go through the Loser Bracket, but I was too tired to play, so I just went home.
In 2005 you did go to the World Cyber Games Grand Finals, which were held in Singapore. What was it like being at the WCG Grand Finals? Was it everything you wanted and expected it to be? What was the over all experience being there like for you?
I really liked GoodFriend, Singapore is a nice country, with warm weather. People were very kind. The only thing I didn’t like was my performance.
Do you think that e-Sports will spread to all nations of the world? How popular is e-Sports in Uzbekistan? Is there a future for e-Sports in Uzbekistan?
Not sure about that. e-Sports aren’t really popular, I think mostly because of our lack of organizers.
How did you first get started playing StarCraft? What was your first gaming experience like? How often do you play StarCraft today? Do you think micro is more important than macro or do you think macro is more important than micro?
It was 2000 or 2001, my brother and his friends were really into StarCraft, and they were noobs and played only hunters , but it looked fun, so I tried too.
Well when I’m active I play about 4-6 hours a day. About micro or macro, I think it depends on match up.
How many ASUS tournaments have you participated in? Those seem like a very big success in the Russian eye of gaming. What do you like about them, or what do you dislike about them?
I never had chance to participate in it.
When you go to the World Cyber Games this year in Monza, Italy, what exactly are you expecting out of yourself? Do you see yourself getting out of the group stage, and maybe possibly winning the entire event?
I will try to do my best, getting of out group would be good.
Will the result of this year's World Cyber Games effect your gaming at all? Will you continue to still play StarCraft and try to become better for next years World Cyber Games or will you just "retire?"
I think this will be my last year, after that I’m thinking of switching to Defense of the Ancients, its fun and popular.
Last question, do you have anything else to add? Anything you would like to say to all the readers?
I wanna say hi to everyone who knows me and good luck to all the finalists.
Welcome and thanks
Bye -.-
