WGTour glory days are far from over, deep within, the drums are still beating. Nothing like a good failure to bring the best of out of this community. It is interesting how a failed season brings the community as a whole - not just WGTour, an anti-hack tool like no other before: PenguinPlug 1.13f - a collaborative work between Ashur, Ilintar and superpenguin's source code.
Many of you were probably quite disappointed with how WGTour's season 13 started out. The launcher, which was supposed to be a positive change, turned out to be bug-infested and the website was lagging terribly, adding to the problems with the launcher. After patch 1.13f came out and PenguinPlug, which is the basis for the WGTour launcher, took over a week to upgrade (big props to Ashur who did this together with me in absence of SuperPenguin), we have been sitting quiet. Not because we haven't done anything to correct the situation - on the contrary, we have made massive fixes to make sure that if you want to return to WGTour, you'll have an enjoyable place to come back to.
First of all, we have fixed many problems with running PenguinPlug on various system configurations. Issues with not being able to run PenguinPlug should no longer exist - which is proved by the fact that there are constantly over 300 users logged in to the antihack system.
Next, we have made steps to ensure that the replay uploading feature used by WGTour is as painless as possible. The replay upload code has been completely rewritten, both client and server side, to make sure there are no lags when uploading after-game replays and everything is transparent to the user. You will not see any more http errors for 3 minutes into the next game.
Server side, massive changes have been done as well. The WGTour webmastering team has worked hard to find and eliminate all slow MySQL queries causing massive site lag, as well as rewriting major parts of the site to make use of a new, optimized framework. Currently, lags that plagued WGTour in the past are history - the system has not lagged significantly for over 5 days. This is all taking into account the rapidly growing number of users connecting to the launcher main antihack server, which is also hosted by WGTour.
So, I cannot guarantee you that WGTour will be your perfect gaming solution and that everything will suit you there, but we have done everything to make sure it gets close. Don't let yourself be prejudiced, test it out for yourself - maybe you'll decide it's worth giving a try after all.
On behalf of the WGTour staff, I wish you all happy gaming!
