GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 16 |
KyrixZenith versus oGsEnsnare @ Delta Quadrant |
At the top left would be Ensnare with Kyrix at the bottom right. Kyrix decides to go a fast expand at his 15th Drone and Ensnare would apply some pressure with a Bunker rush. Kyrix would be forced to sacrifice a few Drones and to pump out early Zerglings to stop the bunker rush. While Kyrix was taking care of the Bunker rush, Ensnare would expand to the natural behind his main. Having the Bunker rush happen to him, Kyrix was forced to make a lot of Drones, thus leaving a lot of time for both players to focus on their macro a lot in the early game. Ensnare would concentrate on getting his expansion up and Kyrix on filling up his mineral lines to saturation. Eventually Kyrix would make the next move with a Baneling bust. Kyrix catches Ensnare off guard who has retracted Supple Depots and runs right in with over a dozen Banelings and Zerglings. However, Kyrix is not able to deal a significant amount of damage and Ensnare easily defends the bust with Marines and Siege Tanks. Kyrix would stay outside Ensnare's base with Zerglings and Banelings. Ensnare attempts to move out several times, but is pushed back by Kyrix's mix of Zerglings and Banelings each time. Despite of having taken out large portions of Ensnare's army, Kyrix would not be able to break against Ensnare's hold in the middle of the map. At the same time Ensnare was taking the middle, he would also keep pressure on Kyrix by constantly harassing his main with a Medivac drop. This allows Ensnare to take out Kyrix's third expansion in the top right which then leads to Kyrix's reduced economy, leading to his tapping out. |
KyrixZenith versus oGsEnsnare @ Blistering Sands |
Ensnare spawned at the top right and Kyrix spawned at the bottom left. Kyrix would fast expand once again, but would decide to tech to a Lair before Zergling speed while Ensnare decides to go for a quick Banshee. The Banshee would provide little harass while Kyrix's early Lair would allow him to get out Mutalisks early. Having Mutalisk out early, Kyrix would be able to play an aggressive game against Ensnare, keeping Ensnare in his base. This then allows Kyrix to take a third expansion early at Ensnare's 4th expansion spot. Ensnare would play a very passive game allowing for Kyrix to take a strong economic lead which would eventually lead to Kyrix's win. Kyrix would constantly keep up the pressure on Ensnare and just take the game late-game due to his economic advantage. |
KyrixZenith versus oGsEnsnare @ Steppes of War |
The game starts with Ensnare placing an Engineering Bay at Kyrix's natural expansion. Seeing this Kyrix would decide to go an early Lair with two extractors into Mutalisks. Not having scouted this out and considering the past two games, Ensnare walls up and expects a Baneling bust rather than Mutalisks. Mutalisks would eventually come out just in time for Kyrix to defend against Ensnare's small force of Hellions, Marines and a Medivac. These small forces would keep coming out for Ensnare in an attempt to take the lead, but at one point he pushes with a Thor and loses it to a Drone defence with Mutalisks. Just when it looked like Kyrix would be eliminated, he makes a huge come back with Drones defending. He would eventually roll over Ensnare with an aggressive combination of Zerglings and Banelings. With that, Kyrix would become the first player promoted to S class this season. |
GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 16 |
CheckPrime versus St_HopeTorture @ Steppes of War |
Check starts off with a 6 pool in an attempt to win the game quickly on such a small map. HopeTorture does not see this until six Zerglings run through the middle of the map. Despite not walling in, HopeTorture will actually employ some great SCV and Marine micro to fight off the six pool. Check seeing his six pool fail, he would work towards a Roach all-in build. HopeTorture would scout this out and Check would decide to expand instead of doing his Roach all-in. This actually helps Check stay in the game just a little while longer. However, after having start the game with a 6 pool, Check would be too far behind and would fall after several strong pushes by HopeTorture. |
CheckPrime versus St_HopeTorture @ Scrap Station |
Check would open up with a quick expansion while HopeTorture decides to get an early reactor from his Barracks. A Factory then replaces the Barracks and he opens up with two quick Hellions to scout and harass. The Hellions end up doing very little damage and HopeTorture then places a Starport next to the reactors and pumps out 4 Vikings to scout and harass Overlords. HopeTorture builds up to a strong drop with two Medivacs fully loaded with Marauders. He then drops into Check's natural and lands his Vikings to take out the natural expansion of Check's. This push would continue into Check's main and Mutalisks would spawn for Check in time to kill of the push, but not before the Spire is taken out by HopeTorture and a significant amount of damage is done to Check. Check attempts to counter, but HopeTorture would continute dropping Marines into Check's base to take the game. |
GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 16 |
Leenock versus oGsNaDa @ Delta Quadrant |
Leenock spawns at the bottom left with the legendary Tornado Terran, NaDa at the top left. Leenock goes with a 6 pool against NaDa and sends all his Drones with his 6 Zerglings. NaDa was forced to pull his SCVs and builds a Bunker next to his mineral line. For the next dire moments, the one thing NaDa had to do was get a Marine into that Bunker. After some intensive micro, a few moments it seemed like a Marine would enter the Bunker, but to no avail as Leenock's Zerglings would stop them in time. The one last chance NaDa had was to force a draw if he could take out Leenock's last drone, however his last SCV would enter Leenock's base to find a Drone still mining and he would be forced to GG. Leenock showing CheckPrime, how a 6 pool should be done. |
Leenock versus oGsNaDa @ Shakuras Plateau |
NaDa takes a quick expansion with a single Marine and a Bunker being built at his natural. The long rush distances between bases on this map allowed NaDa to do this with ease as Leenock fast expands as well. NaDa would tech to blue-flame Hellions from two Factories, while Leenock techs to a Baneling nest with Burrow and a Spire as well. NaDa would spawn three Hellions from a reactored Factory and a techlabbed Factory. Three Hellions would eventually turn into seven Hellions with blue flames and he runs right into Leenock's main to take out a half a dozen drones and scouts out the Spire by Leenock. A Thor would come out for NaDa so the threat of Mutalisk harass was minimized. Rather than switching to more Barracks for a better support group to his mech build, NaDa would actually get two more Factories for a total of four. NaDa would also match expansion for expansion with Leenock, guaranteeing his economic advantage in the game. However, once NaDa takes his second expansion he would put down four more Barracks for a quick switch to a more bionic army composition. Leenock, despite seeing the Thors from NaDa's army he would actually assemble a large Mutalisk army. This large Mutalisk army would prove to be quite deadly, as NaDa's Thors would have a hard time positioning for a defence. Once Leenock starts harassing with his Mutalisk NaDa decides that he needs to push to stop the harass. This final push would prove to be too strong for Leenock as NaDa rolls over Leenock with a large Marine, Hellion, and Thor army. |
Leenock versus oGsNaDa @ Xel'Naga Caverns |
Stealing an SCV kill inside NaDa's mineral line, Leenock shows great skill in both stealing one of NaDa's vespene geysers by building an extractor and then canceling twice before using the Drone to scout out NaDa building a Command Center inside this base. NaDa then techs to a Banshee to scout and defend while he expands to his natural. Leenock already has his expansion made from fast expanding and transitions to Roaches, a Baneling Nest, and Infestors. Leenock then goes into a Hive tech on two bases with a third base being made. NaDa would continue his Banshee harass in the center of the map and even takes out an Infestor before losing his Banshee. NaDa eventually moves out with a sizable Marine and Siege Tank force. This timing attack catches Leenock off-guard as he scrambles to make Banelings and gathers his Infestors for a defence. With a great spread formation of his Marines, NaDa is able come out of Leenock's Baneling barrage with a dozen or so Marines and a all his Siege Tanks intact to take the game. |
GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 16 |
EGIdrA versus oGsZenio @ Delta Quadrant |
The game starts of with Zenio spawning in the bottom left and IdrA at the top right. Zenio elects to Lair tech while IdrA decides to expand to his back natural by destroying the debris blocking his way. IdrA would end up with two bases while Zenio with only Lair tech. After getting his Lair, Zenio would morph in several Overseers to contaminate IdrA's hatchery, preventing IdrA from injecting larva. This would decrease IdrA's macro while Zenio rotated three Overseers in and out of IdrA's base to contaminate. Zenio would eventually take a lead in Roach armies as both players clashed at IdrA's ramp. Zenio with the earlier speed upgrade to his Roaches would storm through the ramp of IdrA's base and take out two Queens along with some Roaches before losing his own Roach army. With two Queens being shot down by Zenio, IdrA would find his new Queens being delayed once again by the contaminate of Zenio's Overseers. Once again the Overseers of Zenio are paying off quite nicely by both preventing larva injections and Queen construction. Hydralisks would eventually spawn for IdrA to help ward away the Overseers. However, IdrA's Hydras would not be enough to support his Roaches as Zenio would attack with a large Roach army in the end to take the first game from IdrA. Zenio finally showed some high level play of Overseers in a game where macro was a huge factor. IdrA being known for his monstrous macro capabilities, found his one key skill being stifled by the clever usage of Overseers. |
EGIdrA versus oGsZenio @ Blistering Sands |
Zenio and IdrA start off with similar starts, but Zenio would opt for a Roach Warren while IdrA opts for a Baneling Nest instead. Zenio then walls off with 3 roaches on his ramp and techs to Banelings instead. IdrA goes for the destructible rocks of Zenio's base, but are chased off by Roaches. The game would end quickly as IdrA is not able to prepare his defences in time for a timing Roach and Baneling push from Zenio. IdrA would be forced to type out early after losing most of his defences in a very anti-climatic second game which had the match start off with such a great game from both players. |
