CIS fans rejoice, all the Russian and Ukrainian teams qualify for WESG Global Grand Finals

A total of twelve teams qualified for the $1,500,000 WESG 2017-2018 Global Grand Finals. From these twelve spots, four were claimed by the Russian and Ukrainian teams.

Group stage day two at the European and CIS qualifiers LAN finals was all about CIS Dota. After half of the Virtus Pro players qualified with AntiHype  for the 1.5M Dollars main event in the first part of day, along side Mag’s Ukrainian stack UAshki, the evening brought into the arena Team Ukraine and Ultima Thule to fight for the top three positions in group D. Featuring the rest of the Virtus Pro players, including their coach, Ivan "Artstyle" Antonov plus OG’s Roman "Resolut1on" Fominok and Empire’s Andrey "Ghostik" Kadyk, Team Ukraine were the group D favorites, however the Russians from Ultima Thule played some truly amazing Dota and claimed the first place in the group undefeated. The Ultima Thule vs Team Ukraine Bo1 match was by far the highlight of the day. Put aside the game itself which was a full demonstration of rat DotA with a Resolut1on Anti-Mage, the game was the first one to gather a bunch of players, who are present here, in Barcelona, to watch the game from the seats placed next to the stage.

The third place in the group was claimed by the Turkish line-up of ANT E-Sports, who secured two key victories through the day to join the final 12 teams going to China next year.

Although the group stage matches already decided the qualified ones, the action is not over at the WESG European and CIS regional qualifiers finals. Today and tomorrow, the 12 qualified teams will play a single elimination bracket for the event prize money. Top eight teams will go home in the money, while 9th to 12th place finishers will have to be happy just with the tickets to the Global Grand Finals.

WESG Barcelona EU and CIS regional qualifiers finals prize pool distribution:

1st place: $40,000
2nd place: $20,000
3rd place: $10,000
4th place: $6,500
5th-8th place: $4000
