Vici Gaming let nobody stand in their way as they powered through their opponents and claimed the first upper bracket finalist spot at the Perfect World Masters.
After a brief but much needed 1 day break from The Perfect World Masters minor, the action started up again today with 2 of 4 quarter-finals being played – followed by an upper bracket semi-final. With 3 series to fill the first day at the Minor playoffs – and after 2 teams were eliminated in the recent group stages -- today saw teams falling into the lower bracket, or claiming their spot in the winners final.
The first series of the day saw Team Secret going up against the NA squad, compLexity and the series went the distance as both teams threw everything at each other. The first game of the series saw coL take a few minutes to find their footing, but from then on, they rolled through Secret and claimed game one. However, things weren’t as easy after this and Secret were able to claim the next two games and dropped the North American team into the lower bracket. Team Secret moved on to face the winner of the next match-up, between VG and Mineski.
After a short hiatus, Mineski returned to the competitive Dota 2 scene, hoping to pick up where they left off and claim more Pro Circuit Points. But Vici Gaming were not going to be an easy opponent, after their fantastic run through the Dota PIT Major just a few days ago and the Chinese squad stood firm. In a quick 2-0 sweep, VG dispatched their SEA opponents down to the lower bracket and claimed their semi-final spot vs Team Secret. Mineski would have a single life line remaining as they faced off against coL in the dreaded best-of-one lower bracket in a few days.
For the final series of the day, the first upper bracket semi-final took place – Team Secret versus Vici Gaming. Straight of the bat it was clear that this Chinese squad were not to be underestimated as they destroyed Secret in game one. The second game of the series saw Secret putting up a fight, but to no avail as Vici Gaming ensured their spot in the upper bracket finals with their 2nd 2-0 sweep of the day. This ensured VG their spot in the upper bracket finals where they now await their opponents, which will be decided tomorrow. Secret drop down into the lower bracket's round 2, where they avoid the best-of-one phase but still could face elimination.
Tomorrow kicks off with more upper bracket action, Newbee vs LGD.Forever Young followed by the underdogs who stunned everyone when they dominated group B – Team Kinguin. You can follow all the action of the Perfect Wold Masters minor here.
