WCA and Gameshow will be teaming up to bring a LAN event for university Dota teams at Gamescom this month.
The post-The International down time will not be as devoid of Dota as initially thought as WCA has teamed up with Gameshow to host a Dota2 LAN event at the gaming convention, Gamescom. The LAN events for Hearthstone, League of Legends and Dota2 will be taking place in hall 5.1 and the exhibition area at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, from the 18th to 21th of August. The events will all be starting at 10AM but on different dates, the Hearthstone event will start on the 18th, followed by the Dota event on the 19th and the LoL event on the 20th; the grand finals for all events will be held on the 21st, starting with Dota2 at 9AM.
European and Chinese students and university eSports teams will be invited for the Dota2 and Hearthstone events, while professional teams will be invited for the LoL event. The players in these three games will be competing for a total prize pool of $46,800.
A GSL format has been adopted for this event, meaning that the teams will be split into several double elimination brackets to decide the top teams of each group, these teams will then proceed to face each other in another double elimination bracket to determine the overall winner.
WCA and Gameshow are two well-known eSports tournament organizers in China and the CIS region. The organizers are known a few tournaments, most notably, the Gameshow Global eSports Cup and the WCA tournament series, which last had a Dota2 event in December 2015.
