Scythe, MVP.Phoenix completes invite list for ESL One Asian qualifier finals

The last two teams being invited straight into the ESL One Asian qualifier finals are Singaporean team Scythe.SG and Korean team MVP.Phoenix. They, along with Arrow Gaming and Titan, are the four invited teams joining four other teams from the qualifiers in a contest for one ESL One Frankfurt slot.

After Malaysian teams Arrow Gaming and Titan were invited a little less than two days ago, there were many speculations about who the last two invites will be. The questions are answered now, as those final two invites are revealed.

Many expected Scythe to be invited, and they were. Those who last followed the SEA scene last year would have mistaken the team's roster as First Departure's, and they are not to be blamed. Four out of the five members were actually from that team, with the lone exception being the team Zenith veteran, Nicholas 'xFreedom' Lim. Despite being relatively new and already experiencing a number of roster changes, the team has already proved to be one of the best SEA teams at the moment after winning the AsianCyberGames best-of-the-best Invitational.

The last team isn't what most expected though, as Korean team MVP.Phoenix takes the final slot allotted to invited teams. They have shown good form lately as they defeated Southeast-Asian big-name teams like Mineski and Orange. The winning team of Nexon Sponsorship League Season 2 is also undoubtedly the best all-Korean team at the moment as they have won Starseries Korea. They will be competing on a LAN event in Kiev, an experience which would surely help the team improve.

All other teams wishing to try their skill in the Asian qualifier will have to go through the national tournament and the battle royale before reaching the stage where the invited teams will start at. More information regarding the format can be seen here.

The teams competing in the Aisian qualifier finals are:

  • Malaysia Titan
  • Malaysia Arrow Gaming
  • Singapore Scythe.SG
  • Korea MVP.Phoenix
  • Chinese qualifier's 2nd placer
  • Chinese qualifier's 3rd placer
  • SEA Battle Royale's champion
  • SEA Battle Royale's 2nd placer

The champion team will be one of the two teams representing Asia at ESL One Frankfurt. The other team representing Asia will be the champion of the Chinese qualifier. The details pertaining the Chinese qualifiers are still unconfirmed at the moment.

ESL One Frankfurt will be held on 28-29 June. Aside from the two Asian teams advancing from the Asian qualifiers, the main event will also feature invited teams Natus Vincere and Alliance as well three teams from the European qualifiers and one team from the American qualifiers. The prize pool of this tournament is $150,000 plus a portion of the DotaTV ticket sales.
