mTw and Clan Poland not traveling to DreamHack

After MYM, two more teams have cancelled their participation in the DreamHack Winter Corsair Vengeance Cup: mTw and Clan Poland are not going to make the trip.

It's feeling like a déjà-vu. The stories about ESWC at the beginning of November have been dominated by no-shows and trip abortions for Paris. Now the second and third invited and qualfied teams have told DreamHack admins they won't make the trip to Jönköping.

On Thursday, 22 November, the DreamHack Corsair Vengeance Dota 2 Cup starts with 14 predetermined teams and 2 BYOC slots. Last week, MYM already told the community they would get a new lineup, by now known as dd for which the decision about a continuation of the MYM time will be made on 1 December.

Now it's the two clans mTw and Clan Poland who cancel their trip. mTw has been invited to DreamHack Winter as the winner of DreamHack Summer. In June, they took down Na'Vi in the DreamArena Extreme in a 2-1 grand final. Clan Poland was already the standin for ScaryFaceZ, the Ukrainian team which qualified in one of the three online tournaments, but made clear very fast they would not be able to go.

mTw is the title holder

In their statement, Clan Poland apologizes and expresses the disappointment about the promises and the short-notice call apparently made by the CPL manager, while mTw's syndereN doesn't really want to reveal the real reason.

mTw's new roster after The International, announced on the date when DreamHack invites were made public, has so far not gone up the the level the former mTw with three French players was able to play at.

Statement by sasu, Clan Poland:

"Unfortunately, we won't be able to attend DreamHack Winter. The Clan Poland organisation let us down. When we joined the multigaming (4 months ago) they promised to send us to DreamHack Winter if we manage to qualify there. And when we did it, management confirmed that they will underwrite the entire trip and take care of all the details. And then, 5 days before our flight to Sweden, CPL Manager came to us saying he won't come with us, and we have to take care about every travel detail by ourselves. We needed funds to book our flight, and the money came to me just today (two days before the flight). Of course it costs twice as much now, so money that they gave us weren't enough for our trip to Sweden (we would have had no money to buy any food or pay for accommodation). So as a team we decided to not go. Some players just can't afford paying for all that. It’s a shame. As underdogs, we were aware of the fact that we have yet to prove ourselves, and we agreed to cut expenses of the trip to the minimum, including free accommodation at DreamHack's sleeping area, no bootcamp at all before the tournament and so on. We really wanted to be there, to compete with the best. Well, maybe some other time."

Statement by Troels 'syndereN' Nielsen, mTw:

"mTw will unfortunately not be able to attend DHW 2012. We are sorry for the short notice and want to apologise to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us in action. I hope all participants have an awesome event, and with the lineup of teams present, I have no doubt that I will be passing the crown to the winners of a fierce competition. Best of luck to all teams!"

With MYM, mTw and Clan Poland not coming, DreamHack will announce three more invites, most likely tomorrow along with the groups.
