Coverage

Newspost written by Mazor, 2003-07-31 22:33:00:

"Reunion E-Sports Challenge - a LAN party estimated for 800 persons has now started. Unfortunateley, REC-LAN only managed to gather about 150 gamers at the same location. Since Starcraft: Brood War isn't the biggest priority of games at REC-LAN, we've decided to change the national final spots from 3 to 1."

And so we did. But the interest did grow much. We thought that iN.Britney (ZeuS) would come from Gothenburg to participate but he didn't. There weren't many Brood War players around. However, we managed to get four players to participate. And three of them were from the GosuGamers Crew! These were the players:

HeavensBackdoor (apan_abel)
Poxicator
Kurrenamnam
Ngine

About the maps now, since World Cyber Games haven't, in my knowledge, said that the WCG v2 maps (made by Garimto) are the official ones, we decided to play on the v1 maps. So, we started off with Kurrenamnam vs HeavensBackdoor. Kurre got newbie bashed. Hard. Heavens won both his games against Kurre, the first one by playing serious and the last game on a 9 pool speedlings -> 4 hatchery.

HeavensBackdoor > Kurrenamnam 2-0

The games Ngine vs Poxicator were more serious though, pretty tight games as well. Terran vs Protoss first on Lost Temple. Poxicator won using tank drops and harassments versus probes. Second game played on Jungle Story, quite long. Poxicator started strong with vulture / mine harassing but Ngine expanded and took the game back. But then the advantage switched from Ngine and ended up with Poxicator with more expansions, mines, vultures, tanks and turrets.

Poxicator > Ngine 2-0

And now to the final. HeavensBackdoor played Poxicator first on Legacy of char. Both players played similar (PvT) with drops. Heaven won with reaver / dark templar against Poxicators tankdrop in a 7 minute game.

Second game was played on Halls of Valhalla. HeavensBackdoor mass expanded and built dragoons and carriers. Poxicator lost two dropships (goliaths in them) early in the game and hadn't much gas to produce as many units as he needed. Heavens finished Poxicator (who smashed his keyboard very, very hard) with carriers, kind of easy.

HeavensBackdoor > Poxicator 2-0

This makes HeavensBackdoor the winner of WCG SWE: Reunion.
Congratulations!
