Talon parts ways with Gabbi and Fly

After a disappointing first season in Dota 2, Talon Esports is making a change in their roster before the second tour of the DPC 2021-2022 season.

Two months ago, Hong Kong-based organization Talon, entered the Dota 2 scene for the DPC 2021-22 season with a full lineup including Fly and kpii.

The team was a mix of veterans —Tal "Fly" Aizik , Damien "kpii" Chok and Kim "Gabbi" Villafuerte — and lesser-known (outside of SEA perhaps) players. Brizio Adi "Hyde" Putra Budiana and Rafli Fathur "Mikoto" Rahman both hail from Indonesia and previously played for BOOM Esports.

As newcomers (the organization and roster) to the SEA scene, they had to play in the open qualifiers and secure a place in Divison II. Many thought their advancement to Division I was in the bag before the season even started and this was just a minor detour on the road to big achievements.

However, many were wrong.

Talon struggled in Division II and ended with a 5th place ranking and a 3-4 series (8-9 game) record. Clearly, not what was expected of such a stacked lineup.

And not what Talon themselves expected either.

The replacements have yet to be announced but they will continue to compete in Division II for the next tour, with high hopes of breaking through for the last tour.

News on Fly and Gabbi's new teams are still forthcoming. Both players have returned home and are expected to use the next six or more weeks looking for and negotiating with a new organization to compete for.
