The reason that LCK casters talk about greater macro when LEC casters don't

There's been some complaints that LEC casters aren't going in depth enough during games in regards to higher level macro, such as wave manipulation.

A lot of people are comparing the LEC to the LCK, and talking about how LS and Papasmithy do a much better job of this than some of the LEC casters. There's a rather simple explanation for this, and it's not that LEC casters are dumb. The LEC English broadcast is how the majority of Europeans and LEC fans experience the league, however, this is not true for the LCK english broadcast. The majority of LCK fans are (unsurprisingly) Korean, and the people who are watching Papasmithy et al are people from around the world, who have actively sought out a new league to watch, with arguably higher level play.

The important thing to note is that Papa is not the default option for an LCK viewer. Those who seek him (and the rest of the broadcast team) out are looking specifically for the knowledge. Meanwhile, most of the people who watch LEC watch it because it's the default option, it's on their in game client, it's closer to them so they're more invested. What this ends up meaning is that the average skill of the viewers of the LEC is significantly lower than the LCK english broadcast, and because of this the broadcast must be adjusted accordingly. When casting you have to figure out what base level of understanding from the audience you have to assume, and if you overestimate them, a lot of what you say will go over their heads, or worse, they may become alienated from the league if they start hearing jargon that they've never heard and the casters are talking about these concepts that they don't understand like its basic league knowledge. They could turn off the stream, or maybe even get demotivated and stop playing the game, and obviously nobody wants either of these things to happen.

Finally, what's important in a storyline also changes when watching a main broadcast, for example, I'm from the UK, I'm familiar with Excel and where they have come from, so I want to hear more about their journey, and about Caedral and Kasing because they are relatable to me. A Korean or Chinese viewer watching the LEC could not care less about nationalities, they want to know about how the players play. This is why you would never hear Frosk talk about how X player is representing their rural province in the LPL, because it's not relatable to her audience. What's relatable to those who seek out foreign leagues is the game, what's relatable to those watching their home league is their home.

Hopefully this makes sense, and I want to note that Papasmithy is a god amongst men and that this definitely isn't to say that anyone else would be as good in his position.
