WCG06: Midas lost to the foreign progamer

[s]event_315[/s]

Earlier today we had an upset, Cobo's win over Midas. We just witnessed today's second upset, featuring Midas and Draco.

This WCG, there have been many popular matches set up and this game was one of them. Both Draco and Midas are in Group B, and this one was one of the most anticipated.

The match started off with SKTelecomT1_Midas spawning at 7 as Terran and Sparkyz Draco at 6 as Protoss on Gaia. Midas started with a Fast Expand build and Draco played an aggressive 2 Gate Proxi Build hoping to catch the mighty terran off guard. His strategy succeeded and ended up destroying Midas' Command Center very quickly. From that point on it seemed that Draco had the clear advantage and chose to set into expansion mode, taking as many expos possible while keeping Midas in his base.

From that point on is felt like Draco's early success was irrelevant. It almost felt like Draco was a little too greedy taking expos, and wasn't able to hold back Midas during mid-game. Draco finally was able to put some pressure on Midas late game by placing several strategic recalls in Midas' main base, forcing Midas to stop his slow push.

Out of nowhere, Draco macroed out about 4-6 Carriers, allowing him to harass Midas into disarray. This forced midas in a do or die situation, forcing him to send all his troops to draco's expansion to slow down or destroy draco's mineral production. It was a success. But only futile, as Draco was able to keep his carrier alive; while picking off key buildings forcing Midas to type: "GG" after thirty minutes of intense play.

This was an incredible game; "The best game I ever shoutcasted", said Tasteless, commentator of the match.

Now Midas needs to win his last remaining matches, against Artosis and Escape. Draco is in a great position of coming out on top, with three straight wins. He has Mondragon and then in the last round Artosis. Mondragon, Germany's biggest hope, has two wins and one loss. He has Draco and then the surprisingly strong Malaysian player Cobo in the last two rounds. This turns into a real nailbiter.

Draco is very determined this year. He tells GosuGamers that he practiced this match more than 50 times. And obviously it paid off.

We hope there will be more of these games to present to you tomorrow and later today. This and all today's replays will be released later today and will be posted as soon as possible.
