Turkey crowned as The World Championships 2016 champions after defeating Argentina 2-1 at the grand final.
Turkey, a team that replaced Australia after they were unable to submit a roster for the finals, managed to lift the champions' trophy. The Turks gave away just two maps which were against France at the semi-finals and against Argentina at the grand final. On the other hand, Argentina were placed 7th at the group stage but grabbed close victories against Sweden and Denmark at the quarter-finals and the semi-finals respectively.
The maps picks of Train, Overpass and Cobblestone favoured Turkey on paper but Argentina fought hard as they had always done after the group stage. The South Americans even started off Train amazingly with a 11-0 lead as the CT side. Then Turkey woke up and won nine consecutive rounds of their own. Back and forth rounds ended up with a 14-14 score line. Turkey were the better team to play under such heavy pressure to steal the first map from Argentina.
The teams moved on to Overpass as the second map. All eyes were on Jonathan "JonY BoY" Muñoz for impressive plays to keep his team in the grand final but someone else, Nahuel "Straka" Vazquez, carried Argentina on Overpass with 24 kills. Thanks to heroic plays of Vazquez and amazing passion of his teammates Argentina dominated Overpass with 16-5 as the final map score.
Argentina's momentum and morale was sky high before the decider map Cobblestone but it being one of Turkey's best maps made things harder for the South Americans. The Turks dominated the first half as Terrorists and managed to secure a 7 round lead over their opponents at the halftime. The Argentines seemed to be more comfortable as Terrorists but eleven rounds were more than enough for Turkey to build on as they were able to defend the bombsites on five occasions to close out the map 16-8 to become The World Championships 2016 champions.
